Teen Migrant Suspected in Deadly Long Island Stabbing, Taken into Custody at the Location

Teen Arrested for Stabbing in Mineola

A 15-year-old undocumented immigrant has been charged with second-degree murder following the stabbing death of a 32-year-old man in Mineola, New York, as reported by Nassau County Police.

Authorities stated that, around 12:29 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call regarding a stabbing on Roosevelt Place. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim with a stab wound to the abdomen.

After being transported to a nearby hospital, the victim was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The teenage suspect, who was arrested without incident at the scene, faces charges of second-degree murder and is expected to appear in the Youth Division of the First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman remarked to News 12 that there are concerns about teenagers unlawfully residing in the country, although police have not confirmed the suspect’s immigration status or any prior relationship with the victim.

Further details about both the victim and suspect have not yet been disclosed.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of increasing illegal border crossings and rising concerns about the impact of a growing immigrant population on Long Island. While the area has not seen the same volume as New York City—where over 172,000 immigrants have arrived since April 2022—there are reports of rising numbers in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

In the past 18 months, Central America’s refugee centers, which are the largest immigration law service providers in Long Island, have noted a surge in asylum requests, jumping from 4 to 25 weekly. Long Island had an estimated 100,000 undocumented immigrants even before this recent influx.

The investigation into the stabbing is still ongoing.
