A Tempe, Arizona, police officer who was recently honored for his work to prevent drunk driving was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Wednesday, ABC15 reported.
Zachary Hyde, who was honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for his work preventing drunk driving, was arrested just after midnight. according to Court records obtained by ABC 15.

A state trooper pulled Hyde over after he was driving about 10 miles per hour in a 35 mph speed zone, ABC15 reported. An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson confirmed that troopers had probable cause to believe Hyde was driving under the influence, leading to his subsequent arrest, according to the outlet. “Any time a criminal investigation involving one of our officers is brought to our attention, we take the matter very seriously,” Tempe Police said in a statement, according to ABC15.

Following the incident, Hyde was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, a Tempe Police Department spokesperson confirmed, ABC 15 reported. Hyde, a two-year employee with the department, was reportedly off duty at the time of his arrest.
Hyde was honored by MADD on June 30 when he and Officer Gavin Young received the Hero Award at the 35th Annual MADD Law Enforcement Awards Dinner. according to The award was presented to recognize the police department's dedication to keeping Arizona's roads safe, the Tempe Police Department said in a Facebook post.
ABC 15 reported that MADD's executive director was briefed on the situation.
