There was no snow near Tucson on Christmas.
But things could change this week in the Catalina and Pinareño mountains.
A weather system moving through southeastern Arizona is expected to bring rain to the valley and snow to the mountains as early as Thursday, starting a snow event, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson.
The Catalina Islands could receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, the weather service said.
Outside the mountains, a freeze warning is in effect for Thursday and Friday of this week as nighttime temperatures dip below freezing.
Tucson's high temperature is expected to be nearly 20 degrees colder than last week.
Saturday will be sunny, but the high will be around 56 degrees.

There's a slight chance of showers and wind on Sunday, but highs will still be in the mid-50s.
Light snow is also possible in valleys east of Tucson from late Sunday night into early Monday morning, the weather service said.
