Texas Tech Student Arrested After Controversial Incident
A student at Texas Tech was taken into custody on Friday, according to police reports.
Camryn Giselle Booker, 18, faces charges including battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, as stated by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. She was also cited for an attack. After her arrest, Booker was released on a $200 bond.
In video footage from the incident, Booker could be heard yelling inappropriate comments about the recent death of Charlie Kirk, specifically, “f*ck y’all dead, he was shot in the head.” A man, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, criticized her for her behavior, labeling it as “evil” and questioned her hateful attitude.
Later, the same man accused her of being “aggressive,” while a video suggested there were implications that her actions were perceived as racially motivated because she is a Black woman.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott commented on the situation, sharing a photo of Booker being arrested on his social media account. “This happened to someone who was laughing at the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Texas Tech,” he wrote.
Booker’s mugshot has since appeared on the Lubbock County Mugshot Facebook page.
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday while he was delivering a speech at Utah Valley University, at the age of 31. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been accused of the shooting. Governor Spencer Cox of Utah noted that Robinson has not been cooperative with the investigation, while also mentioning that Robinson’s partner, identified as a transgender woman, is working with law enforcement.
The Texas Tech police department has been contacted for comments but did not immediately respond. Inquiries were also made about the status of Booker and allegations of her expulsion from the university, though these claims remain unconfirmed.
