Texas A&M University is reportedly eliminating its LGBTQ minor after opposition from Republican lawmakers.
State lawmakers say the Lone Star State's publicly funded universities minor The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Studies major allowed students to “examine how gender and sexuality are socially constructed.” Texas Republican Rep. Brian Harrison told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp plans to “end it” and first announced it in X.
“After months of calling on A&M to end this absurd program, I was pleased to hear from Chancellor Sharp that he plans to end this program. We will never force funding for liberal indoctrination. I'm proud to have brought this victory to Texas taxpayers who deserve it,” Harrison told DCNF. “I look forward to further discussions with A&M to stop taxpayers from funding left-wing propaganda that does nothing to strengthen our economy or the workforce of tomorrow.” I will continue to fight.”
The school's website states that the study is a way to “develop critical thinking, writing and analytical skills” and also to “develop homophobia and transphobia and forms of power (colonialism, sexism, ableism, ableism, etc.)”. It is explained that it also explores issues such as “the relationship between class discrimination, etc.” However, that will be displayed Website has been removed. Harrison previously spoke to the Daily Caller with Texas A&M President Alan Sams, detailing the school's problems with minors as “taxpayers and fiduciary responsibilities.” He said he did.
“As an Aggie, as a Texas legislator, as a taxpayer, and as a fiduciary, I have a duty to ensure that our tax dollars are used only for a) things that are of value to the state of Texas, and b) things that are of value to the state of Texas. As a person, I have told him that it is legally licensed and appropriated. I have asked them to either discontinue this miner or provide a valid reason for continuing this miner. The most charitable way to characterize this reaction is “non-response,” Harrison said.
Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, condemned the minors and said universities must be “accountable” for promoting “radical woke politics.”
“It's time for institutions of higher education, including Texas A&M, to take responsibility for advancing radical woke policies in both the Texas State House and Congress. Enough is enough,” Roy told the Daily Caller in February. Ta.
Sharp did not immediately respond to DCNF's request for comment.
