‘That’s A False Choice’: Senators Claim That Ukraine’s Security Is As Important As The Border

Several senators who support approving new U.S. military aid to Ukraine during its war against Russia told the Daily Caller News Foundation that border security is as important to Ukraine as border security.

The Senate failed Wednesday to pass a bipartisan national security spending bill that would have spent $118 billion on aid to Ukraine and Israel in their conflicts with Hamas and new border security measures.after a closing vote to limit debate on the bill. We're screwed Over Republican opposition, the Senate moved Friday night to pass a new bill that includes provisions on aid to Ukraine without border security measures, but senators argued the two issues are equally important. “Both are important. Amazing. We can walk, we can talk, we can chew gum, we can read. We can do all of those things. We can only do one. We don’t have to. We can do a lot,” Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney told DCNF. He also suggests that by supporting aid to Ukraine, he is clearly more concerned about the Ukrainian border than the U.S. border with Mexico, where the number of illegal border crossings by foreign nationals has increased significantly. I tried to dispel that idea.

“One of the things that frustrates me is hearing people say, 'Well, they're both border issues.' No, when you attack Kiev with hundreds of tanks, it's trying to take over the country. “This is not a border issue. This is a brutal invasion,” Romney said.

Mr. Romney was one of the few Republican senators to vote in favor of invoking the bill. He was joined by Democratic lawmakers on Friday, who told DCNF that both issues are of equal importance.

“Well, that's all that matters and we should have it all,” said Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. “You know, I really do, but the biggest story is that we're all here at 8 o'clock on a Friday night because of just one Peckerhead, you know, Kentucky. “I think you're referring to the state's Republican senator, Rand Paul,” he added. Who is trying to stop the bill from being passed? Rejected In order to move forward with the bill, the Senate had to unusually meet on Friday to allow time for debate.

“So, everything is important. We can't say we can do this or we can't do this. Border security is extremely important. The security of Ukraine is extremely important,” said Democratic Sen. John Hickenlooper of Colorado. Ta. Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware joined him, saying the issues were “both important.”

One Democrat, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, criticized Republicans for lacking border security in the current Senate bill. “Well, we should do both. But the Republicans want the latter. So we need to do Ukraine's security. We can keep talking, but the Republicans have It has killed it and will continue to kill it,” he said.

“It's a false choice,” Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia said as he left the Senate that night.
