The best stores to shop for Midcentury Modern furniture in Los Angeles

Whether it’s an entry-level Saarinen Tulip chair or a $16,000 Mario Bellini modular sofa, there’s no better place to shop for midcentury modern furniture than Los Angeles.

The golden age of furniture design (from the late 1940s to the early 1970s) is more popular today than ever, thanks to its simplicity and adaptability, says the owner of Monrovia’s vintage showroom Atomic Threshold. says Christian Bohr.

“The balanced scale, classic lines and excellent build quality allow these pieces to integrate well into current design schemes without being overbearing or homogenized,” says Bohr. say.

In other words, mid-century modern furniture (many of which are so timeless that they are still in production) are suitable for any type of decor.

You can buy modernist furniture online, on Facebook marketplaces, at your local flea market, or on Instagram, but nothing beats being able to actually try it out and see how it looks and feels.

“People like to go in and see the products and try them out,” says Tricia Benitez-Beenham, founder and creative director of Pop-Up Homes in East Hollywood.
