Loyola Art Show Aims to Showcase Local Talent in Mobile, Alabama
The South boasts a rich tapestry of artistic talent, full of diverse mediums and unique viewpoints. While there’s certainly no shortage of stunning local art, finding adequate spaces to display these creations and foster interaction remains a challenge. Enter the Loyola Art Show, a fine art event designed to provide a platform for local artists. Scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of this month, the show will feature over 60 inspiring artists from across the Southeast.
For Kimberly Cree, a key figure behind the show, her passion for art fairs began during her visits to similar events in major cities. “I started getting immersed in arts events throughout the Southeast, where I encountered fantastic artists,” she recalls. The overwhelming sense of community she observed at these gatherings left a lasting impression.
“I was amazed by the camaraderie at various events around the country,” Kimberly explains. “Mobile is a town steeped in a rich art history, and I saw this as an opportunity for Southern artists to enjoy the same kind of environment.”
For the team, this event serves a greater purpose than merely connecting artists with potential buyers. They aim to spark community engagement in ways that feel genuine and lasting.
This show, as one of the few art events along the Gulf, aspires to be a must-visit occasion. The organizers blend aesthetic excellence and purposeful design to offer an experience that encourages annual attendance. With its spacious venue and meticulously curated artworks, the atmosphere has been described as a fusion of New York City lofts and laid-back Southern beach vibes. The coastal charm has effectively permeated their marketing and outreach efforts.
This year’s featured artist is the remarkably talented AK Hardeman from Alabama. Primarily working in acrylics and oils, AK creates distinctive abstractions that evoke varied emotions through color. “I’m fascinated by color and the freedom of aesthetics. I want to encourage viewers to discover their own meanings,” AK shares.
The participating artists promise a broad range of styles and experiences, adding layers of depth to the event. During the selection process, a panel of nearly 12 judges thoroughly vetted each artist. Those chosen will come from several states, including Arkansas and the Carolinas, bringing fresh perspectives. Last year’s inaugural event attracted a remarkable audience, including interior designers, collectors, and local art enthusiasts.
“It was thrilling to see people genuinely excited about art, to witness connections between artists and attendees who might have never met otherwise. The joy on their faces as they discovered new pieces was truly special,” Kimberly reflects.
Ultimately, the Loyola Art Show strives to create something enduring that resonates within the community, helping it flourish over time. This first annual event seeks to replicate the connections made last year.
