Paramount Pictures released the trailer for “The Lockdown” on Monday, and while the premise sounds crazy, it looks like a really epic movie.
“The Lockdown,” an upcoming martial arts movie from the producers of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” is as ridiculous as a Tarantino film, but with a unique twist: Set in one of Myanmar's toughest prisons, it tells the story of two brothers, Charlie and Jack, as they fight for freedom. According to According to the trailer description, they'll literally fight.
The description goes on to say that the siblings are “accused of a crime they did not commit,” and therefore “forced into a televised fight in which death row inmates compete for a chance to escape death row.” It's probably one of the most implausible plotlines in the history of cinema, but somehow it doesn't seem to detract from the underlying theme of the film. “Roadhouse” was supposed to fill the void of fighting movies in 2024, but it was a disappointment. There was only one really cool fight scene in the entire movie, and everything else was kind of silly. “The Lockdown” seems to have answered that need, delivering a series of beautifully choreographed fight scenes. The only movie that comes close is “Monkey Man,” but that buzz seems to have died down significantly.

Though the film features a cast of actors who are relatively unknown in the US film market — including Caity Lotz, who played White Canary in a number of DC shows, including Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow — and co-stars Leo Howard, there are a number of actors whose names are set to rise to fame in the coming months and years thanks to this strange film.
