‘The President Needs To Do More’: Dem Gov Lashes Out Over Illegal Immigrants In His State

Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker appeared on ABC's “The Week” on Sunday and slammed illegal immigration in his state.

Pritzker attacked Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for sending illegal immigrants to Democratic cities, saying in an interview with John Karl:[n]Enough is already being done, there is no doubt about it. And I think the president needs to do more, and Congress needs to do more. ”

Abbott acknowledged that the state began airlifting migrants to Chicago in December 2023, claiming sanctuary cities were “interfering with and targeting” Texas' “busing mission.” . Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson echoed the Illinois governor's complaints, saying thousands of immigrants entering the state were causing “chaos” and overwhelming the city. “The cities that are the targets of this political game that Abbott is playing are suffering. And here in Illinois, it's minus 29 degrees outside and wind chill,” Pritzker said. “We have migrants coming in from Texas almost every day. We have hundreds of them and no place to put them. We don't have enough shelter space here.”

“If he's going to send people, there are a lot of other cities that could be sent,” Pritzker said. “But no, he's only picking Democratic states, Democratic cities.”

Other states are pushing back against the Texas governor's move to deport illegal immigrants to blue states and cities. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, sent a letter to the bus company Mr. Abbott used to bring migrants to the state, asking them to restrict new arrivals.
