Sedona, Arizona — They shoot themselves in the leg again. It was bad enough when the Republicans took down Roe v. Wade, but now they’re looking to derail Biden’s efforts to forgive student loans.
Bad, bad strategy given the damage their anti-abortion stance did to the party in the midterm elections. They could have activated the Senate. The Supreme Court has broken the seal.
And if student loan forgiveness efforts are to follow the same path as Roe v. Wade, who will get out of this rose-like smell? Biden, of course.
Whether SCOTUS lets it go or breaks it, everyone who might have been affected by it will vote for Biden and his friends, forgiven or not.
Now, combine that with the realization that certain Republicans want to “reexamine” our credentials, and we have a recipe for disaster for the party.
Even $500 billion spent to elect Biden or his proxy is nothing compared to the ultimate cost of helping Ukraine until reconstruction begins.
fool. fool. fool.
Of course, there are perfectly valid arguments against allowing the student loan sector, and many pundits have articulated them eloquently on FOX News and other Republican media venues.
The claims of forgiveness expressed in the media by Democrats and liberals are equally valid.
But if forgiveness is thwarted, the debate will mean nothing as the “retaliation vote” for the Republican Party will skyrocket. Once it kicks off, thank you votes for the Democrats will skyrocket.
Republicans are basically win or lose or messed up. If SCOTUS denies it, it will be even worse for them.
Those unaffected will have no incentive to support the Republican candidate on this issue. They just vote as usual. But not allowed? Oh, are they going to be offended if forgiveness is taken from them!
And remember, like abortion, this issue transcends party boundaries. There were Republican women who wanted to keep abortion rights and Republican students who wanted loan forgiveness.
Unless someone high up in the political food chain who can influence the courts taps some of them on the shoulder and whispers in their ear not to make the same mistakes they did with abortion, SCOTUS will beat it down. Most likely.
It’s a complete win-win for the Democrats. It’s a red flag for Republicans no matter how you try to color it.
For those who would have been freed from lifelong debt through loan forgiveness, killing it would be like killing their dreams.
Carrot sticks were placed in front of them and could be pulled away by the Republicans.
If SCOTUS excluded its existence, those who were not forgiven would be unforgivable and would express their betrayal in the polls.
