‘The View’ Co-Host Appears To Upset Panelist As She States DEI ‘Has Not Accomplished Things’

“The View” co-host Sarah Haines claimed on Thursday that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs “haven’t accomplished anything,” clearly upsetting Sunny Hostin.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday ending “radical and wasteful government DEI programs and incentives” in the federal government and eliminating all affirmative action in federal contracts. Haynes said DEI is “great in theory,” but the programs in place are “a waste of money,” sparking a debate between Haynes and Hostin.

“One of the criticisms of DEI is that diversity, equity, inclusion, all of these things are great in theory. But DEI programs accomplish nothing. They are money-sucking bureaucracies. And we’re not getting anywhere,” Haynes said. “When people say they are threatened, what do you think DEI removal will do to those people?”

“I can tell you that because DEI has actually been abolished at this point…but they also stopped this thing, this ridiculous executive order. What they’re doing is awarding government contracts. And, let’s be clear, that’s bad for women and bad for business,” Hostin said. (Related: Another major American brand gradually withdraws from DEI)

Haynes cited a previous statement from the University of Michigan’s Black Student Union, which argued that DEI efforts are ineffective because they “do not adequately consider the voices of Black students who influence the development of university programs.” According to To the Michigan Daily. The university launched an $85 million investment in October 2016 to increase enrollment of black students, but many students considered the program a failure.

“This isn’t just a critique of diversity, it’s a critique of effective programs,” Haynes said.

“But they are very effective,” Hostin argued.

“That’s not what I’m reading,” Haynes retorted. “But here’s the thing: I want to say this all started with a shift in universities and affirmative action, so I want to ask that we also address legacy admissions immediately.” Because we’re talking about equal opportunity. If so, you need to get rid of the legacy. ”

President Trump’s order requires all government agencies to create a list of DEI offices, employees, and contracts by Thursday and develop a plan to reduce the number of employees working in those offices by Friday. I am instructing you to do so. Brendan Carr, President Trump’s pick to head the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), said he would remove DEI from the agency’s strategic plan and budget.

The president’s move would override former President Joe Biden’s 2021 initiative to “advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility” in the federal workforce. Some major companies, including Walmart and airline giant Boeing, have scaled back their DEI programs in response to backlash from consumers and the public.

After Trump won the 2024 election, dozens of investment advisers warned America’s largest companies in November that their DEI programs would become a liability if the then-president-elect took office again, the Daily Caller reported. The News Foundation first reported.
