Odor Problem in Ogden, Utah
Residents of Ogden and South Ogden, Utah, are expressing their distress over a strong, unpleasant smell emanating from abandoned meat packing facilities. They are calling on city officials to take action.
On Tuesday, investigators entered the building and found a significant amount of spoiled meat, as noted by Ogden Fire Department chief Mike Slater. He mentioned that it was an old meat packing plant and it had a fair amount of rotting meat inside. This news has been reported widely.
Comments from locals indicate that the stench has affected their daily lives for months. One resident, Tate Lindsey, described the smell as if “100 bodies are rotting out there.” Another neighbor, Ali Lindsey, said, “I’ve never experienced anything like how awful this place is.” She even added that when her friend visits, they could smell it through the car, which she found quite embarrassing.
Kim Lindsay, another resident, noted that the odor issues started in March when the property owners stopped maintaining the place. She recalled a particularly unpleasant experience during a family gathering on Memorial Day, when the smell was overwhelming.
The family filed a complaint with the city, but Slater clarified that legal proceedings are necessary before making the building accessible for cleanup. He indicated that there are several court orders involved in the process.
According to the residents, the stench has deterred friends and family from visiting. Despite the unpleasantness, city officials have confirmed that the odor poses no health risks, and the cleanup process is anticipated to take several days as the investigation into the property continues.
