There are many charming Arizona mountain towns, but Heber-Overgaard is arguably the most underrated. Nestled in beautiful Rim Country, this small town may be just a small town on the map, but it has a lot to offer. From historic museums to natural beauty to Old West restaurants and hotels, Heber-Overgaard should be on your to-do list in Arizona.
Located in scenic Rim Country, Heber Overgard is one of Arizona’s most charming mountain towns. With a population of less than 2,500, the town offers a slow-paced lifestyle that stands in stark contrast to the ever-on-the-go nature of modern society.
The town is located within the beautiful Apache Sitgreaves National Forest and is most commonly accessed from State Route 260. You’ll know you’ve arrived when the trees give way to quaint shops and restaurants that look frozen in time.
If you are a nature lover this is the town for you. Tall Timbers Country Park is a hidden gem with a small fishing lake and several winding trails through the woods and along the water.
Inside, there are some interesting exhibits (both interactive and static) and the unique opportunity to hear an audio tour of the stories told by the family who once lived in the house.
Although modeled after an 1800s western town, the resort’s rooms feature modern luxuries such as kitchenettes, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi.
Other onsite amenities include a pool with umbrellas and lounge chairs, an outdoor fireplace, and a 24-hour front desk.
This eatery combines rustic with modern elegance to create a unique atmosphere that every Arizonan must experience at least once.
Oh and did I mention the food is great? From burgers and prime rib to tacos and weekly fish fries, there’s something for everyone here.
