Cochise County boutique winery Sonora Wines has won multiple accolades, including two top honors at international film festivals. 2023 Sunset International Wine Competition in May.
According to a press release, the jury for the Sunset International Wine Competition is made up of winemakers, sommeliers, researchers, educators, qualified media personnel and retail buyers.
Sonoran Wines was founded in 2011 and is located at the base of the Chiricahua Mountains along the banks of Turkey Creek in the city of Pierce in Southern Arizona.
This year, every vineyard entry won an award, including:
- Sonora Wine 2018 Real de Terenate: Double Gold and Best in Class
- Sonora Wine 2016 Petite Sirah: Silver
- Sonora Wine 2018 Real de San Bernardino: Silver
- Sonora Wine 2020 Real de Santa Catarina: Silver
- Sonora Wine 2021 Rose of Grenache: Silver
- Sonora Wine 2020 Mourvèdre: Bronze
Is Real de Terenate the best wine in Arizona?
Inspired by the French Côtes du Rhône, the 2018 Real de Terenato red blend won both awards. Double Gold and Best in Classsurpassed 3,000 wines with a score of 97.

Combining Petite Sirah, Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes, Real de Terenate also won gold at As Central’s Arizona Wine Competition 2023 in March.
