Civil rights attorney Leo Terrell said Monday that the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) lawsuit against Virginia’s removal of noncitizens from its voter rolls is “ridiculous.”
The Biden administration has accused Virginia of attempting to exclude noncitizens who were incorrectly registered to vote on October 12th. Tere said the Biden administration has created “the most political Department of Justice.” (Related: ‘Legal terrorism’: Harris Faulkner slams prosecution and judge for ‘controversial’ treatment of Trump campaign)
clock:
“This Justice Department is the most political Justice Department ever. To answer your question, it is,” Terrell told “America Report” co-host John Roberts. “Here’s why: Federal law says you can’t systematically remove a member of the public from the role of a voter within 90 days. Glenn Youngkin didn’t do that. . He individualizes individuals who perceive themselves as non-citizens, and somehow they end up on the voter rolls.”
“What is Glenn Youngkin doing? He sent them a letter saying, ‘Hello potential voters, you have 14 days to prove your citizenship.'” What is he doing? That’s it,” Terrell continued. “Furthermore, if they object to it, they can follow the provisional ballot. Everyone, including Trump, knows that this Justice Department is unfair. It’s not fair. It’s not fair. The goddess is peeking through that blindfold. This is strange.”
The Justice Department also sued the state of Alabama on September 28 over its efforts to remove noncitizens from its voter rolls. A federal judge ruled Wednesday that states must stop removing noncitizens from voter rolls.
“First of all, what protects every potential voter is the ability to submit a provisional ballot, and that’s a safeguard that protects people’s right to vote,” Terrell said. “But again, what Yonkin is doing is making sure there are no non-citizens on the voter rolls and giving them letters, which is called due process. Come on. Come in and prove you’re a citizen. If you disagree, you can still submit your ballot and resolve the issue later. No one is disenfranchised. Because Virginia is a battleground state, the polls are close, and the Justice Department is currently in charge.
