Arizona Bill to Accelerate Grand Canyon’s North Rim Reconstruction
Three state legislators from Arizona have introduced a bill designed to hasten the rebuilding efforts at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.
Sponsored by Republican Representatives Eli Crane, Andy Biggs, and Paul Gosar, the legislation seeks to simplify the federal contracting procedures by granting emergency contracting authority to the National Park Service.
Even with this expedited process, the Park Service will still need to provide Congress with biannual updates.
The North Rim has suffered significant damage due to the Dragon Bravo Fire, which devastated key infrastructure, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge.
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors has expressed their backing for this bill. However, amidst ongoing disputes over government spending and healthcare benefits, and with a government shutdown looming, the timeline for when this bill might be voted on remains uncertain.
