“I have nothing. I have everything for him because I have no choice as a woman, as a woman I compete with,” Turner told Roberts and Smith. “I’m a woman and I have a discomfort with men, so I compete in the women’s division where I am justly, but he is given the opportunity to win a fence in the women’s division.”
“He can also compete in mixed events and local tournaments. If he wants, there’s a place for him,” Turner said he spent a lot of time and money preparing for the tournament. “So the idea that they’re creating is that they’re expanding their women’s expansion is essentially just making it an open tournament with men, and that’s going to hurt me and the other girls.”
Roberts then read a US Fencing statement about the incident.
“US Fencing enacted its current transgender and non-binary three policy in 2023,” Roberts read from a statement. “This policy is designed to expand access to fencing sports and create comprehensive, safe spaces.”
