Three 11-year-old girls from Washington state took cellphone footage Wednesday night of a man allegedly grabbing a 6-year-old girl, after which the suspect let go of the girl, police said.
The trio were on their way to buy ice cream from an ice cream truck outside their apartment in Kent, Washington, when they noticed a man trying to abduct a small child, police said. Facebook Press Release The Kent Police Department (KPD) reported the incident, citing witness accounts.
The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Hayder Albu Mohammed of Kent. Reporter Kent. (Related article: Neighbors say a sex offender is driving an ice cream truck and trying to lure kids.)
The victim's “brother” yelled at her, but she was unable to free herself from the middle-aged suspect, KPD alleges. The three 11-year-old girls claim the girl was frightened. She allegedly screamed and begged the man to let her go.
Police said three 11-year-old girls intervened, pressing record on their mobile phones and ordering the suspect to “leave her alone.” The suspect then “attempted to rush” the scene with the children, but the girls “persistently” resisted.
According to KPD, the girls then confronted the suspect and asked him if he knew the child they were trying to take away, to which he replied that he did, and the 6-year-old shook her head to let them know he was lying, police added.
Police said the suspect then threw the girl to the ground and three 11-year-old girls grabbed her, after which the suspect appears to have fled on foot and the three girls carried the girl back to their apartment.
