It’s hard to believe we’re already in the fourth week of the college football season. With the action picking up pace, another thrilling Saturday is set for fans across the South.
As the Alabama Crimson Tide enjoy their first bye week, the Auburn Tigers are gearing up for a crucial conference match-up in Oklahoma. There are three games in the state to watch closely this Saturday.
Tulane @#13 Ole Miss
2:30pm CST
While this matchup might not seem particularly exciting at first glance—given that Tulane isn’t a Power 4 team—it’s worth noting that the Green Wave could be one of the top teams in the group of five. With head coach John Sumrall leading the charge, Tulane is certainly capable of surprising some folks in the SEC.
The Rebels are favored by two touchdowns at home, yet it wouldn’t be a shock to see Tulane put up a fight, possibly even turning this into a nail-biter. Ole Miss better be prepared, as this is a team that could not only challenge them but might actually come away with a win.
South Carolina @#23 Missouri
6:30pm CST
Week-to-week changes can be striking. South Carolina entered the season with excitement around quarterback Lanorris Sellers, but their weaknesses were laid bare when he was taken out against Vanderbilt last week. After a tough loss to the Commodores, South Carolina fell out of the rankings and is now a 10-point underdog against Missouri.
Though it seems likely Sellers will be back, facing the fast-paced Tigers will be a tough task. Missouri has been surprising this season, and if they secure a win this week, it will bolster their status as a contender for the playoffs, bringing their record to 4-0.
Florida @#4 Miami
6:30pm CST
Aside from Auburn, this is definitely the highlight game of the week. Billy Napier finds himself under significant pressure, and it’s unclear if he can make it through the season. The Gators’ defense held its own in Baton Rouge last week, but DJ Lagway’s five interceptions didn’t help their chances. Miami is favored by nearly 10 points, showing promise as one of the top teams in college football, led by Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck.
Napier really needs a win to keep his job secure, making this an enormous challenge against a strong Miami squad.
This week promises to be another exciting chapter in college football, with high stakes for all teams involved.
