Three Suspects Arrested For Alleged Paid Acid Attack On Woman, New Jersey Prosecutors Say

ABC News reported Wednesday that police have arrested three Florida residents in connection with an acid attack on a 42-year-old woman in New Jersey on July 26.

The Gloucester County, New Jersey Prosecutor's Office alleged that the “liquid contents” were “sprayed directly” on the victim as she was walking home. ReportedProsecutors alleged that an “unknown female” approached the victim and threw a cup filled with liquid.

According to ABC News, prosecutors said the suspect then fled the scene. The victim was flown by helicopter to a burn center where he remains under treatment for chemical burns covering more than 35 percent of his body, the outlet reported, citing an official. “The liquid used in the attack is believed to be a highly corrosive acid,” prosecutors said. Police tracked the getaway vehicle and identified two suspects, Betty Jo Lane, 38, and Jaymar McNeil, 39, according to the outlet. Prosecutors alleged they were hired by William DiBernardino, 49, ABC News reported. All three suspects live in Florida, the outlet reported.

Prosecutors argued that the suspects had a “pre-existing relationship” with the victim. The three suspects were reportedly extradited from Florida to New Jersey on Thursday to stand trial on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and stalking.
