Tide tames Gators in swampy overtime victory

The Alabama Crimson Tide got another big win Wednesday night, defeating the Florida Gators 98-93 in an epic overtime game.

Struggling from beyond the arc, the Tide had to find new ways to get it done, especially in the first half and not getting a 3-point game for most of the night. Alabama made just 2 of 18 shots (11.1%) in the first half, but was fortunate to only trail 41-37 at the half.

Poor shooting meant Alabama didn't even attempt a 3 in the first eight minutes of the second half, which was highly unusual for coach Nate Oats' team.

But in the final 11 minutes or so of the game, the three-balls finally started falling, with Alabama making 8 of 32 (25%).

Alabama fell behind by double digits at one point in the second half, but was able to rally back and take the game into overtime, where they were eventually able to pull away after a back-and-forth overtime period.

Grant Nelson was sensational in perhaps his best game of the season, posting 22 points, eight rebounds, and six blocks, as well as this highlight jam.

In a play that encapsulated Alabama's game late in the first half, various players grabbed four offensive rebounds on one possession before Rylan Griffen finally made his 3-pointer.

Mark Sears didn't quite have his best game, but still put Alabama on top with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds, with his only shot of the night a big shot with less than five minutes to play.

Sam Walters and Nick Pringle were great off the bench, with Walters scoring 14 points and Pringle scoring 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

“You can look back at the times when we didn't shoot well. To be honest, we didn't play well in a lot of areas, but we still found a way to win against good teams. In this league. They were the hottest team of any team in the country. You have an offense that ranks No. 9 in the country. Shoot, we didn't do a great job on defense. We probably ranked them the No. 9 offense in the country. We looked even better than Jin and we were still figuring out how to win,” said Nate Oats after the win.

Alabama is in first place in the SEC and leads all games, going 11-2 with five games remaining. The Tide will have a big road test on Saturday before heading to Lexington for a game against Kentucky at 3pm CST on CBS.
