Tim Hightower receives the Cornerstone Award at the Excellence in Construction Awards from ABC of Alabama.

This week, Alabama’s Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) honored Tim Hightower with the esteemed Cornerstone Award during their annual construction dinner.

The Cornerstone Award recognizes individuals who have significantly impacted the Alabama construction sector, particularly through their leadership in workforce development, governmental issues, and industry advancement.

Tim Harrison, the chairman of Alabama ABC, spoke highly of Hightower’s influence. “Tim commands respect whether he’s in Washington or Montgomery,” Harrison noted. “He deserves our gratitude for his exceptional representation and advocacy for our industry.”

Hightower, reflecting on his achievement and the importance of his organization, expressed gratitude. “We can’t fully articulate how crucial ABC is to the success of Alabama’s construction industry, and I’m incredibly humbled by this recognition,” he stated. “I’ve built my career on being a man of my word. It’s a rare honor for my peers to acknowledge my work.”

A Birmingham native, Hightower finished high school at West End and earned a degree from Jacksonville State University in 1977. He has been the owner and president of Southern Carpet, Hardwood & Tile since 1987, transforming it from a small residential rug business into one of Alabama’s leading commercial flooring companies.

During his 18 years on the ABC Board, Hightower held the chair position in 2014 and has been involved with both the ABC Merit PAC and the National PAC Board for nearly two decades.

Robin Savage, president of Robbins & Morton, commended Hightower’s enduring contributions. “Tim has built a robust business that serves both our clients and our industry while giving back significantly,” Savage remarked. “He’s a standout individual who values friendship and relationships, both personally and professionally. It’s hard to imagine someone more deserving of this year’s ABC Cornerstone Award.”

The ABC of Alabama advocates for the construction industry, supporting around 200,000 jobs and comprising 5% of the state’s economic output. The organization remains dedicated to championing the industry and its workforce throughout Alabama.
