Tim Walz to kick off solo campaign tour in L.A.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will address labor groups in Los Angeles on Tuesday as he kicks off his first solo campaign bid as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

Walz is scheduled to speak at the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees convention. The theme of the union's annual gathering this year is “Fearless.”

“Tim is a great friend of our union and someone who has always put the interests of workers first,” AFSCME President Lee Sanders said in a speech Monday.

The event was Walz's first time campaigning alone, and came just one week after Harris selected him as her running mate. A whirlwind week since then has catapulted Walz from a little-known Midwestern governor to a national sensation. He and Harris spent the week on a swing state blitz, with stops in Pennsylvania and Michigan. They spent the weekend on a Western tour, headlining rallies in Nevada and Arizona.

In Las Vegas, Harris told supporters she supports a policy to eliminate the tip tax, a proposal her opponent, former President Donald Trump, has touted heavily in recent weeks. The Trump campaign criticized Harris as “desperate” to copy Trump's proposal, but the Nevada Chefs Union quickly responded by saying, Supporting Harris and Her Plan.

Harris then attended a homecoming fundraiser in San Francisco, which raised $13 million.
