Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Fox News Tuesday that he will challenge Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn for his seat in Washington, D.C.

“I’m announcing that I’m running for our Senate against John Cornyn. It looks like John Cornyn is running again in his fifth term. We’ve spent 30 years there, and it’s definitely time for Texas change,” Paxton said.
“We have another great US Senator, Ted Cruz, when we have another great senator who actually stands up and fights for Republican values, fights for the values of the people of Texans, and supports Donald Trump in an area where he focuses in a very important way,” Paxton added.
The main race between the two Republican leaders could be one of the most expensive primary elections in the 2026 cycle, with Kornin facing a potentially tough race as he tries to secure a fifth term next year. (Related: Exclusive: GOP Senator says he’s “on track” in Trump’s coal announcement.)

“I can certainly point out a lot of things, including his gun restrictions, his lack of wanting to fund the border wall, and President Trump about that, including President Trump’s election in 2016 and his latest election,” Paxton said. “So there’s a lot to focus on something he’s never done. I think it’s time for someone to take responsibility for it.”
