Tips for keeping plants, pipes and pets safe

A freeze warning was issued for Phoenix on Monday night, and severe freezing continues in the Pinal County area.

In northern Arizona, scattered snow showers were expected throughout the day in areas above 4,000 feet.

“Today’s highs will hit highs in the high 40s and low 50s, making it the coldest temperature in the last three, possibly four years for the region,” said Jared, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Phoenix. Heil spoke about the situation around Phoenix on Monday.

Nighttime lows are expected to range from 30 to 35 degrees in the Valley, potentially endangering plants, pipes and pets. Here are some tips:

Subzero temperatures can damage exposed plants.

The National Weather Service recommends:

  • Bring sensitive plants indoors.
  • Cover outdoor plants with a variety of materials, including frost cloths, blankets, towels, cardboard boxes, liquid frost inhibitors, and cactus Styrofoam cups.
