Todd Lyons explains that many illegal migrants are choosing to leave on their own and discusses how this could benefit them in the future.

Update on Illegal Immigration Initiatives

Todd Lyon, the director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), shared insights on Fox News concerning the ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration, especially focusing on self-deportation initiatives.

The Department of Homeland Security introduced the CBP Home App in March, which encourages unauthorized immigrants to voluntarily leave or face deportation. During his appearance on “Ingraham Angle,” Lyon discussed the program’s positive outcomes.

“Actually, we’re witnessing more self-declarations than we initially expected. We provide support within detention facilities. Recently, we met with local officials,” Lyon mentioned.

He characterized the self-deportation program as a practical and humane alternative to detention.

“Now, we’re able to facilitate voluntary departures instead of placing individuals in custody. It’s the safest and most humane option, giving them a chance to return legally,” Lyon explained.

Despite facing criticism, Lyon affirmed that ICE is determined to persist in its efforts.

“We won’t allow opposition to divert our path. Our mission continues daily. We will keep our focus on sanctuary jurisdictions where certain judges are trying to restrict ICE’s actions, but we won’t back down,” he asserted.

Lyon emphasized the significance of policy decisions made during the Trump administration and reiterated ICE’s commitment to the safety of Americans.

“This is aligned with the president’s goals and what the American public desires. ICE is dedicated to making America safe again,” he stated.

In early June, the Trump administration unveiled incentives for unauthorized immigrants using the CBP Home App. Those who choose to leave the U.S. voluntarily will benefit from free flights, waivers of prior deportation fines, and a financial incentive of $1,000, all part of a broader strategy to efficiently address illegal immigration.

Unauthorized immigrants could also find themselves held in Florida’s newly established detention center, often referred to as “Crocodile Alcatraz.” Supported by both President Trump and Florida’s Attorney General, this center is part of a larger endeavor focusing on immigration law practices, including a proposal to appoint the National Guard as immigration judges.
