Tom Homan Criticizes CNN for Their Coverage of the App Monitoring ICE Agents

App Tracking ICE Agents Draws Criticism

Border official Tom Homan has expressed strong concerns on CNN about a new app designed to help users locate Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. This app, known as Iceblock, allows users to anonymously share the location of ICE personnel within five miles, including details about their appearance and vehicles.

During an appearance on “CNN News Central,” business writer Clare Duffy discussed how the app functions. Homan, speaking on “The Will Cain Show,” labeled the app’s network as “disgusting,” emphasizing that it poses significant risks for ICE agents. Homan stated, “This is troubling. We need the Department of Justice to investigate whether this app crosses the line into obstructing federal law enforcement.” He noted that attacks on law enforcement officials have surged by 500%, highlighting concerns that an ICE agent could be ambushed as a result of this information.

He referenced violent incidents in areas like Los Angeles, where officers face violent protests, stating, “This is appalling on every level.”

Joshua Aaron, who identifies as a “proud anti-fa” on social media, commented that CNN is facilitating an app intended as an “early warning system” against ICE actions, allowing users to pinpoint ICE personnel digitally.

CNN has informed its audience that the app enables users to track ICE agents effectively and includes detailed instructions for downloading the app. “When you open it, it looks like a map. Users can tap to report ICE sightings nearby, and others can receive alerts within five miles,” Duffy explained. The app is free for iPhone users, and Aaron claims that it does not collect any user data.

Homan expressed disbelief at CNN’s reasoning for reporting on the app. “In my 40 years of experience, I’ve never seen anything like this,” he remarked. Homan suggested that if the motivation was animosity toward President Trump then it overshadowed concerns for law enforcement. “But something needs to change. This app could lead to dangerous situations,” he added.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently highlighted a 500% increase in attacks against ICE agents while on duty, noting that violent actions have been directed at them. They reported that in one incident, a deported illegal immigrant was charged with attempted murder for attempting to attack ICE agents with a Molotov cocktail.

Agents have detained illegal immigrants connected to serious crimes, including murder and drug trafficking. Todd Lyons, acting director of ICE, criticized the “reckless and irresponsible” promotion of CNN’s app, claiming it puts agents’ lives at risk. CNN responded to these claims by stating they are merely reporting on an app that has garnered attention across the country.
