Tommy Tuberville will easily glide to the Governor’s office.

Tommy Tuberville’s Gubernatorial Ambitions

Recently, there’s been a buzz around Washington about Senator Tommy Tuberville, who just won re-election for his second six-year term. Now, he’s eyeing the governor’s seat in Alabama for 2026. This election cycle is particularly interesting since Alabama’s history has seen few governors, besides George Wallace, who served as long as Tuberville’s anticipated tenure might allow.

As we approach the holiday season, speculation will likely intensify, and those close to Tuberville might confirm he’s gearing up for a run. Some thought he’d step away from the Senate once Trump took office—but instead, he found himself in a comfortable position with a Republican majority and Trump in the White House.

Currently, Tuberville is seen as one of Trump’s staunchest allies in the Senate. He’s not sitting back holding a minority position; rather, he’s actively participating in a pool of very conservative leaders. Given his standing, it’s apparent to those familiar with Alabama politics that Tuberville could have a rather smooth path to the governor’s office. Unless something unforeseen occurs, he’s likely to secure this position, easily outpacing other contenders. Serious candidates seem to be shying away from challenging him, knowing how tough it would be to win.

His potential candidacy alone has already discouraged some who might have otherwise considered running. The current governor, who has aspired for years to the role, may now be hesitant to enter the race, choosing instead to sidestep Tuberville. Attorney General Steve Marshall even hinted he wouldn’t be competing, while leaving the door open for a Senate run if Tuberville decides to go for the governorship. Rick Patty, a member of the agricultural committee, seems to be in a similar bind—he’s limited in his options and seems to think Tuberville would excel as governor.

With the election day set for May 19, 2026, Tuberville’s pathway to winning the governor’s race is becoming clearer. In Alabama, winning the Republican primary is often tantamount to winning the general election.

Tuberville stands out as a prominent conservative figure in Alabama politics, crucial for securing support from the conservative voter base. His connection to Trump cannot be understated; they are very much linked, both personally and ideologically, forming what many refer to as the Trump/Tuberville Team.

Trump enjoys strong support in Alabama and among other conservative states—he’s a unique force, and it’s likely he’ll back Tuberville, knowing that the odds are in Tuberville’s favor.

Tuberville is well-positioned for success in the upcoming gubernatorial race. He can still serve in the Senate while campaigning, utilizing his alliance with Trump and maintaining a solid conservative image. Additionally, his fundraising capabilities have been impressive, already amassing $3 million shortly after re-election, with expectations to reach $5 million by summer’s end.

If you had to place a bet, you might want to say that Tommy Tuberville is set to transition from senator to governor.

Catch you all next week.
