Key staff members involved with Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell have stepped down as of Thursday.
Marjorie Pomeroy Wallace, who served as O’Connell’s Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Advisor, shared her decision in a public statement.
In her statement, she expressed that after years of exhilarating yet demanding work for various candidates, it was time for a break. Pomeroy Wallace described her time working with O’Connell as “an incredible honor,” stating that she felt she had accomplished all her goals.
This resignation coincides with increased scrutiny of O’Connell’s administration, particularly following his response to a May immigration enforcement incident in Nashville, which drew criticism from Republican officials at both federal and state levels.
Meanwhile, Nashville residents recently voted in favor of a dedicated tax aimed at improving transportation. However, Governor Bill Lee announced plans involving Elon Musk’s company to build an electric vehicle tunnel between the airport and downtown without seeking input from the city.
Pomeroy Wallace transitioned to Chief of Staff after managing O’Connell’s campaign during the 2023 general election. In July, she shifted from that position to focus on strategy related to specific projects. The administration has since brought in Masami Tyson from the Tennessee Department of Economic Community Development to take over as Chief of Staff.
O’Connell’s leadership has marked a significant period of political activity in the past decade. Pomeroy Wallace is also vice-chair of Tennessee’s future women initiative and has previously worked with former U.S. Representative Jim Cooper to support local elections.
A Nashville native, Pomeroy Wallace previously held roles in the nonprofit sector, including with the American Cancer Society and Alignment Nashville, an organization connecting local businesses with public schools.
