Kamala Harris’ deputy campaign manager, Rob Flaherty, admitted at a Harvard University political event on December 6 that the Democratic Party’s media development strategy is not only failing, but failing miserably. .
inside panel discussion At Flaherty’s Institute of School Politics I lamented His party and campaign couldn’t find voters who weren’t paying attention to the corporate networks (CNN and MSNBC) and Hollywood celebrities in Diddy’s orbit. He also made an interesting comment that the Democratic Party is the “party of institutions,” and I think that’s exactly right. Democrats have become staunch defenders of the status quo, while Republicans, under the leadership of President-elect Donald Trump, have become an insurgent force for change in the nation’s capital. Rob Flaherty, Kamala’s deputy campaign manager, directly acknowledged that the left’s “amplifying ecosystem is mainstream media and Hollywood.”

“For the left, our amplifying ecosystem is mainstream media and Hollywood, and mainstream media and Hollywood don’t interfere with us very much, they’re not really allies, and they don’t want to pay attention to politics. That’s not where the voters are. We’re at a big event here at Harvard with the mainstream media. The voters we really needed to reach weren’t seeing this at all, and the mainstream media. I haven’t seen it at all,” Flaherty said.
“Fundamentally, I think there is a mismatch between the amplification engine of the left and the current media, which is becoming increasingly alternative and anti-establishment. “It’s causing real problems,” he added, “when people really hate the system.”
Mr. Flaherty’s point is spot on, and most of us who don’t live within this liberal “amplifier engine” realize that one of the Harris campaign’s biggest flaws is its ability to connect with voters through non-traditional means. I knew from the beginning that it was impossible.
In fact, Democrats are trapped in an echo chamber that may be nearly impossible to escape. No one really wants to help them. They are like alcoholics who cannot be saved or intervened. They are perfectly cooked and no one is going to bend over backwards to correct their wayward brand. (Related: Democrat Bud Shines Light on Whole Brand, But Too Late to Save It)
As Flaherty said, the current political and media moment is alternative and anti-establishment. Unfortunately for the Democratic Party, they are a mainstream, establishment party. The only way they can make a comeback in the media world is by abandoning the platform altogether.
For now, they will be stuck in a no-contact bubble, chatting amongst themselves.
