Topps, one of the world's leading manufacturers of baseball trading cards and other sports-themed collectibles, has announced the release of official Birmingham-Southern University baseball cards.

The Goal: We are producing official trading cards for the Birmingham Southern College baseball team.

Even though the university closed permanently, the school's baseball team made it to the NCAA College World Series.

“We are producing official trading cards for the Birmingham-Southern College baseball team,” the company posted on social media. “While the college is permanently closing, the baseball team played in the NCAA College World Series.

“A portion of the proceeds from these cards will be donated to baseball programs… (and we'll also provide cards to teams to distribute to players, friends & family!) Congratulations to @BSCsports on completing their historic Cinderella run.”

The Birmingham-Southern High School baseball team is currently on a historic run that included an appearance in the Division III College World Series in its final year of existence. The BSC will conclude on Friday, May 31, the same day the Panthers face Salve Regina in their CWS opener.

The Panthers' story garnered significant national attention, with feature articles in ESPN, Yahoo!, The Washington Post, and elsewhere, and several documentary teams, including the makers of MTV's “Two-A-Days,” requested permission to follow the team.

The program is relying on community support to cover the remaining travel expenses, and the team's GoFundMe has already exceeded its goal of $100,000, and the Topps card will provide further support to the Panthers.
