PHOENIX — A tornado on Monday afternoon caused extensive damage to a residence in Williams — about 33 miles west of Flagstaff — officials said.
The Williams Fire Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies responded to the Junipine Estates community north of Williams. National Weather Service.
The tornado was considered an EF-1 on the NWS Enhanced Fujita Scale with 3-second gust estimates up to 100 mph.
CCSO said in a press release that between 8 and 10 homes were damaged.
A Red Cross shelter was set up at 636 S. Seventh Street in Williams for residents who may have been displaced from their homes by the tornado.
No injuries were reported immediately, and life and property valuations are being assessed.
“We are heartbroken by the impact on this community and the impact on those who have lost their homes,” District 3 Supervisor Matt Ryan said in a press release.
He added: As with previous natural disasters, the county is here to support our community members in any way they can. ”
Local public safety resources, search and rescue teams, and detectives were responding to the area, according to the release.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Yavapai and Coconino counties Monday afternoon, and a flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Yavapai County until 6:15 PM. NWS.
