Tour guide at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ shares challenging experience with Democrat politicians during a tour.

Kevin Guthrie from Florida’s Emergency Management Division informed Democrats on Monday that they had “taxed” the “Crocodile Alcatraz” tour during an appearance on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime.

A bipartisan group—including Democrats and Republicans—visited a new immigration detention facility in Florida over the weekend. Following their tour, Democrats raised concerns about claims regarding overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. During his broadcast, Watters questioned Guthrie about whether he had seen any lawmakers creating controversy by exaggerating situations.

“Absolutely,” Guthrie replied, recalling a moment involving an individual using an infrared thermometer. “It was pointed at a light bulb showing 110 degrees. I thought, ‘Come on, you can’t just point this at a light bulb and act like that’s the actual temperature here.’

This bipartisan group included at least five members of Congress and around twenty state legislators, and Guthrie was among the first officials to inspect the facility, as reported by Politico. After their visit, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz addressed the media, labeling the facility a “concentration camp.”

Wasserman Schultz expressed hygiene concerns, specifically noting that each holding area contains three toilets connected to sinks. Watters pressed Guthrie about the toilet situation and other complaints raised by Democrats. “We’ve already shown this,” Guthrie said. “It’s a standard mock-up toilet system in a secure facility. We meet and exceed both national and Florida standards.”

He elaborated, “Yes, there’s a sink and a toilet there, but you can’t just treat this like a regular dining situation; you’ve got to eat around the toilet area.” During the tour, Wasserman Schultz mentioned that government staff received “big pieces” of roasted chicken and sausages, while detainees were given “gray turkey and cheese sandwiches, apples, and chips.”

“One of my favorites, Jesse, was the ‘Grey Turkey Sandwich.’ She was only six feet away from the box of sandwiches, so I actually don’t know how she could describe it as gray,” Guthrie remarked. He added that both hospital visitors and those under Michelle Obama’s lunch program receive the same food options.

Wasserman Schultz asked if detainees could receive a second portion, implying the first was too unappetizing. Democratic complaints met with resistance from the Republicans present. Florida Senator Blaze Ingoglia referred to their objections as “political theatre,” insisting that the center was “clean, airborne, and well-maintained.”

“The rhetoric just doesn’t match reality,” he stated. “This is pure nonsense from Democrats.” As the Biden administration addresses issues surrounding illegal immigration, some argue that deportations could still affect individuals like Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia.
