Tourists enjoy Flagstaff’s winter wonderland as entire state finally cools off

a sudden temperature changes Once over the valley, the highlands meant waking up covered in snow all night.

It’s no secret that the mountains are covered in snow after the weekend’s storms, but the first snowfall of the season is packed with families, kids, hikers, and snowman builders.

Chris Pratt and Ana Chavarria from Arizona climbed a mountain to see the poplars change color in the fall.

“If you capture it well, you can just see this beautiful yellow glow,” Pratt said.

They got more than brightly colored leaves – they got a winter wonderland.

“Tears came to my eyes,” Chavarria said. “It’s one of the most beautiful gifts Arizona has to offer.”

Out-of-state visitors were shocked to see so much snow just a few hours south of Flagstaff, especially after months of record-breaking heat in October.

“It’s night and day, especially coming from Michigan to Arizona,” Michael Barcusel said. “I didn’t expect to see anything like this. I thought it was all desert.”

Some pups, like Daisy and Gus, are seeing snow for the first time and are feeling a little more at home. This October Sunday, the kids were filled with memories of building and naming snowmen.

The countdown begins until the ski resort lift opens. So far, the Arizona Snowbowl is yielding more than a few inches early in the season.

“We tend to get snow in October, but usually not more than a foot. The snowfall here is incredible,” said Snowbowl’s Angie Grubb.

Fall is coming to an end, but from the looks of it, it could be a snowy winter at the Snowbowl. The winter lift is scheduled to open on November 22nd.
