Rep. Neil Carter will host a town hall to discuss the new zip code 85144, which covers the Pinal County portion of Queen Creek and the Santan Valley.
The Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, June 20th at 6:00 pm at 2197 W. Gold Dust Ave. in Santan Heights.
The new zip code 85144 covers the area south of Empire Boulevard, west of Gary Road, and north of Arizona Farms Road. New postal codes will go into effect on July 1, 2023.
According to Queen Creek officials, the newly formed postal code now has 280 Queen Creek addresses, including the Goldmine Estate Subdivision, Earnhardt Queen Creek and U-Haul Moving & Storage.
Only affected residents of the new 85144 zip code will be notified of the change by email. All mail will continue to be delivered from Queen Creek Post Office at 22424 S. Ellsworth Loop Road.
Carter will discuss how the new zip code will benefit Pinal County by shifting sales tax revenue to the county, according to a press release from Carter’s office.
“Both Maricopa and Pinal counties have zip codes, so tax revenue is being erroneously rerouted to other jurisdictions,” Carter said in the release.
“The new zip code 85144 will correctly have a total sales tax of 6.7% instead of the Queen Creek rate of 8.55%,” Carter said. “As the state’s sole representative, Santan Valley’s sole representative, it is important to me to ensure that communities do not overtax their purchases, and that the taxes they pay are for the roads, not another county. Please have it returned to
Residents of the new postal code areas are encouraged by the Post Office to start addressing correspondence using the new numbers beginning June 1st. Deliveries to new postal codes will begin on July 1st.
Mail in the old postal code will continue to be delivered to homes in the affected areas for one year.
