Track winter storm in Arizona Feb. 1-2

A half inch of rain is possible in the valley by Friday evening.

PHOENIX — Rain may ease briefly in the Valley today, but there's still some snow in the highlands and a chance for storms in the lower desert by tonight.

A winter weather warning was issued for parts of northern Arizona on Thursday, and temperatures are expected to drop again in Phoenix.

Who is the culprit? Pacific low pressure system, according to the National Weather Service. A storm system rich in “Pacific moisture” will bring rain, snow, strong winds and colder temperatures to 48 states.

The storm is expected to continue on its path through the weekend, according to the NWS.

The heaviest and most widespread snow is expected to fall in the highlands Thursday night into Friday, according to the NWS. A half inch of rain is possible in the valley by Friday evening.

6:00: Snow is still falling in Flagstaff, with the NWS recording 4.2 inches of new snow this morning! Most of the cold front moved south and east out of Maricopa County.

10:30pm: Meteorologist Lindsay Riley said of the situation across the state:

9:40pm: Widespread rain continues to fall across the valley. Total precipitation ranges from 0.04 to 0.08 inches.


7:10pm: Initial rain is moving into the West Valley.

6:15pm: The storm rolled into south central Arizona from California.

6 pm: Flagstaff Unified Schools will start two hours late Friday.

4:40pm: A wind and hail advisory has been issued for parts of Yavapai County.

3:30pm: Rain moving into northern Arizona

3:40pm: Light showers are moving into southwestern Arizona.
