Littlefield, Arizona — A Littlefield, Arizona mobile home caught fire early Sunday morning, killing a resident.
At approximately 5:37 a.m. MST, the Beaver Dam Littlefield Fire District responded to reports of a structure fire at 3216 Kingman Street, Deputy Fire Chief Andre Ojeda told the St. George News. The flames engulfed the travel trailer and was ruled a “complete loss”.
Because of this, firefighters’ “first strike” reportedly focused on protecting a nearby mobile home, about 15 to 20 feet from the blaze. It suffered “minimal damage” consisting of melted and charred siding.
“We made the curtains and chilled the other structure because we were just ready to start,” says Ojeda.
The crew then returned to the original fire. When neighbors began searching for him after the flames died down, they found the travel trailer resident dead inside his home, Ojeda said.
One was treated with smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
The district dispatched fire trucks, water trucks and ambulances to the scene. The Fire District and Mojave County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Ojeda advised those staying or living in travel trailers to keep combustible materials such as paper away from heat sources such as stoves and personal heaters.
“They catch fire and within minutes are completely engulfed,” he said.
Ojeda added that the man’s name has not been released until the family is notified.
This report is based on statements from police, paramedics or other responders and may not include the full range of findings.
