The Kingman murder trial, which dates back to Christmas Day 2007, began on Wednesday. Former Kingman resident Edward Serrat, 53, has been charged with burglary, theft, arson and murder in connection with the death of Anna Hammons, 80.
Mojave County Deputy Attorney Jacob Court told a Mojave County Superior Court jury that when widow Hammons was murdered at her home at 4295 North Irving Street, Serat was with her sister and daughter across the street. said he was living
“He brutally murdered her and her dog before taking some of her property, including her car,” Court said. He urged jurors to pay close attention as witnesses piece together the case and provide a perspective that leads to the defendant.
Attorney Randall Craig said that despite “a lot of blood” at the crime scene, there was no evidence that Serato was at the victim’s home and that Hammond’s blood was not on the client’s person or property. Said it didn’t come from Craig said police, under pressure to solve the case, jumped at the opportunity when the defendant’s niece, a drug addict who held a grudge against her uncle, was implicated.
“They fabricated the evidence to suit the suspect,” Craig said. “You will find that Mr. Serato did not murder Anna Hammons.”
The trial by Judge Billy Sipe of the Center for Law and Justice is set to be extended until next week.
