The University of Alabama System on Saturday unveiled a memorial at Bryant-Denny Stadium honoring longtime trustee and board chairman Jim Wilson, who died in 2023.
“Jim Wilson is an incredible person and his impact on The University of Alabama is immeasurable,” said University of Alabama President Stuart Bell.
“Jim's leadership played a key role in bringing numerous building projects to fruition across the UA System, and through his hands the beautiful campus we know today as The University of Alabama took shape. With an unwavering love for the university, Jim embodied the spirit of leadership and was a true advocate for The University of Alabama.”
Wilson, a Montgomery businessman and philanthropist who passed away last March, was chairman and CEO of Jim Wilson & Associates. He was first elected to the board of trustees in 2003 and served in several key leadership positions during his 20-year tenure.
“Jim Wilson lived a big life. He had a big heart and a big vision and made a huge impact on the Board of Regents and across the institutions of the UA System,” said Scott Phelps, interim chairman of the UA System Board of Regents.
“While Jim's great presence will never be forgotten by those who knew him, this plaque will introduce him to future generations of students and fans so that they too can understand and appreciate his contributions to the UA system and his enduring legacy. Jim was a wonderful trustee, a beloved husband, a adored father and a true friend to all.”

Wilson was known as a passionate Crimson Tide fan and was an outspoken fan. Former University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban said Wilson gave him a lift after the team won the 2020 national championship, and described Wilson as a passionate and outgoing person.
“You don't get a chance to relate to those guys very often,” Saban said. Tuscaloosa News In 2023. “There are very few people who fall into this category that I can say have had that kind of impact on me, but Jim is one of them.”
“His positive energy and enthusiasm was contagious and we can all benefit from that, and he truly cared about others,” Saban said. “We hope this plaque will remind all who see it of the example Jim set and inspire them to carry on his legacy for years to come.”
The memorial, located at the stadium's south entrance, commemorates Wilson's “dynamic leadership,” “unmatched charisma, inimitable humor and boundless love for his family, friends and the University of Alabama System.”
