Trooper injured after driver crashes into fire department, DPS vehicle in Flagstaff

Flagstaff, AZ (AZFamily) — Officers are recovering after a driver crashed into two emergency vehicles on a busy highway in northern Arizona Thursday night.

According to the Department of Public Safety, officers with the department were investigating the crash that happened on Interstate 40 near Lone Tree Road around 9 p.m. When they arrived on scene, they found that another driver traveling in the area had struck the fire and police department vehicles, officials said. No one was in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

DPS said one officer was injured while trying to avoid a collision with a vehicle, and authorities are investigating whether the driver was unconscious at the time of the collision.

The highway was closed for several hours overnight but reopened just before 2:30 a.m.
