Troy searching for new athletic director after Brent Jones moves to Georgia Tech

The Troy Trojans are searching for a new athletics director following the retirement of Brent Jones, who has taken a senior leadership role at Georgia Tech.

“It’s a bittersweet moment to see Brent Jones leave as Troy University’s athletics director,” said Troy Prime Minister Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. in a statement. “We appreciate the exceptional leadership he has provided to our staff and student athletes. His experiences have well-prepared him for this next chapter in his career.”

Jones is set to become the Associate Vice President and Executive Athletic Director at Georgia Tech.

“Brent embodies all the qualities we were looking for in a key position within our athletics division,” commented Ryan Alpert, the vice president and athletics director at Georgia Tech. “He is a proven leader at the FBS level, an effective fundraiser, and has successfully built strong brands. He will be instrumental in achieving our championship goals.”

Jones has been with Troy since 2017, serving as both Senior Vice Prime Minister and Director of Athletics during his six years there.

Under his leadership, the Trojans have had significant athletic success, including 10 Sun Belt Conference Championships, with notable victories in football over the last three years.

Other sports, like baseball and men’s basketball, have also flourished, thanks in part to the seven head coaches he recruited during his time.

Jones reflected on the special place Troy holds for him and his family.

“First, I want to extend my gratitude to Troy University’s Prime Minister Jack Hawkins Jr. for his leadership, friendship, and unwavering support during my time here,” Jones said. “Roy University is truly unique, and I’m thankful for my time as a Trojan. I’m eager to join the Georgia Tech Athletic Association and continue the momentum we’ve built.”
