Alabama Journalist Recognized for Excellence
Jacob Holmes, a political reporter from Alabama, has received significant recognition in his field. He was named Print Journalist of the Year by the Journalism and Communications Alumni board of Troy University. This accolade highlights his contributions to the political landscape in Alabama.
The selection process involved nominations from graduates, faculty, peers, and community members earlier this year. After careful deliberation and voting by the Jaca Committee, Holmes emerged as the top choice.
“Your hard work, dedication, and impact in your field makes you a worthy recipient, and we are proud to celebrate you,” remarked Robbin Taylor, director of Hall Journalism and Communications.
Holmes will be honored during a Gala on Friday, October 3rd, coinciding with the 50th anniversary celebration of Troyan Vision, a student-run television station at the university.
His reporting focuses on critical issues of transparency and accountability in Alabama’s political arena, continuing a tradition of fearless journalism at APR. Holmes’ work sets a high standard for tenacity in the pursuit of truth that the Hall School of Journalism at Troy University has long championed.
Bill Britt, editor-in-chief of Alabama political reporters, commented, “Jacob’s efforts and unwavering commitment to the truth are celebrated by his alma mater. He exemplifies the excellence of Troy University’s training for journalists, and we are fortunate to have him on our team.”
For Holmes, this recognition extends beyond personal achievement. It underscores the essential role journalists play in promoting accountability and upholding democracy in Alabama.
“It’s a great honor and an unexpected privilege to be recognized by my peers as a print journalist this year,” Holmes expressed. “The Hall School of Journalism and Communications at Troy University has trained so many great journalists, and it forms the foundation of today’s journalism. It truly is a highlight for me to reflect on and celebrate my work at my alma mater.”
