U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Tuesday stepped up his calls for the Senate to hold a full impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. After the House voted to impeach Mayorkas in February, Sen. Tuberville (R-Auburn) said it was time to do it, and do it right.

“I call on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to conduct a full and fair impeachment trial of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas,” Tuberville said. “Secretary Mayorkas has willfully failed to secure our border for three years since he took office, and I will vote to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable.”

Taborville said unchecked chaos at the southern border has resulted in the loss of innocent American lives.

“At least 9 million people have crossed the border illegally since President Joe Biden took office, and the border is in the worst state in U.S. history. This is more than a crisis,” Tuberville said.

“This is an invasion encouraged by the Biden Administration that is impacting every city and state across the country. 22-year-old Laken Riley in Georgia. 12-year-old Travis Wolf in Missouri. Washington State Trooper Chris Gadd. All of these Americans murdered by illegal immigrants.”

“Their blood is on Joe Biden's and Alejandro Mayorkas' hands.”

The senator acknowledged that Senate Democrats will likely continue to obstruct impeachment proceedings against Mayorkas.

“I expect Senate Democrats will shelve the articles of impeachment and try to sweep Biden's border carnage under the rug. Every single House Democrat has already voted to save Mayorkas' job, effectively endorsing the border crisis.”

He stressed the importance of adhering to precedent and also said Mayorkas' trial could bring a modicum of justice to the families of Americans recently killed at the hands of illegal immigrants.

“In the 235 years since the birth of our great nation, articles of impeachment have never been introduced, and it should not happen here. The families of Laken Riley, Travis Wolf and Officer Gadd deserve a full and fair trial.”

“It's time that Secretary Mayorkas is finally held accountable.”
