Tuberville on government shutdown: ‘Democrats prioritize ILLEGALS over American citizens’

Tuberville Criticizes Democrats Over Government Shutdown

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is once again directing sharp criticism at Democrats as the federal government faces a shutdown.

As of Monday, the government has been closed for six days, with the Senate failing to progress any party’s short-term funding bill last Friday.

The Senate is anticipated to make another attempt this afternoon to secure additional votes, but it seems neither proposal is close to the 60 votes necessary to proceed.

Tuberville stated, “Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats voted again to keep the government shut down. Schumer closed.” He added, “They care more about illegal aliens than American taxpayers.” He suggests that some Democrats are trying to downplay their support for illegal immigrants, but the evidence remains clear.

Republicans are also voicing concerns about the potential extension of subsidies from Obamacare as the Democrats hope for further expansion.

Tuberville recalled the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, where all candidates raised their hands in support of providing healthcare to undocumented individuals. He pointed out that California Governor Gavin Newsom has already offered free healthcare to illegals, putting a burden on taxpayers. “So don’t be surprised if the radical Democrats threaten a government shutdown unless Republicans agree to allocate $185 billion for illegal healthcare,” he remarked.

With the Senate unable to pass a funding bill, the House GOP has indicated it will extend its break until October 13th to apply additional pressure on Senate Democrats.

Tuberville criticized the level of government spending, stating, “Government spending in Washington is out of control.” He emphasized that President Trump was elected to prioritize American citizens over undocumented immigrants and seems prepared to utilize the shutdown to affect change. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s great and it’s been a long time coming,” he noted.

The senator, who is also campaigning for Governor of Alabama in 2026, believes that the public will hold Democrats accountable for the current gridlock.

“Don’t make a mistake. Radical Senate Democrats think they’re targeting President Trump, but the American people are not fooled,” he expressed. He urged Democrats to move past their grievances and support a clean continuing resolution, as they have done repeatedly in the past. Meanwhile, he reassured that his offices in Alabama and D.C. would continue to operate as usual.
