Tuberville presses defense officials for answers over helicopter crash that killed Stephen Dwyer

It's been months since a deadly helicopter crash in the Mediterranean killed five elite U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation soldiers, one of whom was a 2004 graduate of Enterprise High School.

Warrant Officer Steven R. Dwyer, 38, was participating in an aerial refueling mission as part of a training exercise on Nov. 10, 2023, when the crash occurred.

Senator Tommy Tuberville wants to ensure Alabamians remember Dwyer's sacrifice, and as part of that effort, he is calling for the Senate Armed Services Committee to investigate the crash and provide an official report. clock:

“I would love to get a report on the five special forces who we believe lost their lives aboard a helicopter in the Mediterranean,” Tuberville told Special Forces Commander Gen. Brian Fenton during a recent hearing. “One of them was a soldier from Alabama, and I would love to get a report on that, if possible.”

Shortly after the accident, Taborville took to social media to express his condolences.

“Our prayers go out to the family of Warrant Officer Steven R. Dwyer and all of the victims affected by this tragic crash.”

Enterprise Mayor William E. Cooper knew Dwyer personally.

“We are heartbroken to learn that Steve passed away while serving our country,” Cooper said in November. “I was his vice principal when he was in high school and remember him fondly. Let's all pray for his wife, three sons, parents, sister and other family and friends as they get through this unimaginable time.”
