Tuberville proposes post-playoff Heisman voting – ‘Don’t do it in December’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville shares his thoughts on the College Football Playoff, how his friend and fellow coach Nick Saban finished the season, and how awards like the Heisman Trophy can be better decided. Told.

he spoke out kick Hutton & Withrow's “Hot Mike” on monday.

Tuberville (R-Auburn) said the Heisman Trophy should be voted on and awarded after the national championship game. He cited Jalen Milroe, who finished sixth in the polls before his performance against Michigan, as an example.

“With Washington, before the game, everyone in the country was asking why this guy did this.” [Washington QB Michael Penix] Can’t win the Heisman? “Next year we'll have 12 teams, so I'd like to see the Heisman situation change, but I'd like them to wait until the end of the season and then pick the No. 1 player,” Tuberville said.

“Please stop in December just speculating because at the end of the year the top 12 teams will be playing in a playoff system and embarrassing themselves.”

This year's Heisman winner, LSU quarterback Jaden Daniels, threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just four interceptions, and had 1,134 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Tuberville also shared his thoughts on the alleged sign-stealing scandal at the University of Michigan, saying the blame lies squarely with the head coach.

“The head coach is responsible for all of that and you can't avoid that. All of these coaches make a lot of money, so there should be huge fines for things like that. The whole team. They don't need to be punished. But it takes a huge fine to bring them back to reality. But I don't think the whole team should be punished, I think the head coach should be punished.”

On the topic of Jim Harbaugh and his possible exit from the NFL, Tuberville was also asked if that opportunity or desire ever came across his desk.

“No, that's not true. When I was in Miami, I was offered the linebackers coach job in Cleveland. Saban was the defensive coordinator. [Bill] Belichick was the head coach. As I told Nick, I could have gotten a better job in Miami. I said, “We don’t lose here in Miami” — we were full. The NFL is about owners and players. The coach is the pawn in between. I would fire him to sell five more season tickets,” said Sen. Tuberville.

“There's a lot of good owners in the NFL, but a lot of them aren't good. I love football, college and pro, and I've had a lot of coaches that I've coached with and I've gone there and had fun, but I never got to that point. I could not do it.”
