Senator Tommy Tuberville Honors Veteran of the Month

Every month, Senator Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Auburn, takes the time to honor veterans for their contributions to the nation.

In July, he named U.S. Army veteran Elaine McLeod as “veteran of the month.”

Tuberville shared the announcement via a video on X, saying, “Veterans are the heartbeat of our community, and Elaine McLeod from Troy is one of those leading initiatives to enhance it.” He expressed his honor in recognizing her for this month.

McLeod, whose father served in the Korean War, joined the Army in 1974 right after high school. She worked as a military police officer and had various responsibilities, including protecting Air Force One and maintaining barrack cleanliness.

Tuberville commended her efforts in advocating for fellow veterans across Alabama.

Since returning to Troy in 2000, McLeod has actively participated in local veteran organizations, including the US Ambett for Vietnamese veterans and the Ozark American Legion Post, where she is currently the commander. Tuberville noted, “Elaine has dedicated herself to addressing veteran issues such as homelessness and food insecurity, making a significant impact on the lives of our heroes in Alabama.”

Tuberville acknowledges a different veteran each month, inviting nominations from Alabama residents who wish to highlight deserving veterans through a submission process via email.
