On Monday, January 8, 2024, Southern Arizona Paving Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (DTM), will begin a road improvement and street safety project on the Old Spanish Trail from Broadway to Harrison Road. It's planned. Part of Proposition 411 – Tucson has better streets | Safe Streets Program.
Crews begin the project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers within project limits. After prep work, workers crush or mill (remove) the asphalt and resurface with new asphalt.
During this construction, one travel lane will be maintained in each direction and access to residential and business driveways will be maintained, except when heavy equipment is directly in front of the driveway.
This work does not include the intersection of Camino Seco and Old Spanish Trail.
Additionally, as part of the Tucson Safer Streets project, crews will excavate and repave multi-use roads within project limits.
Following paving, crews will raise manhole covers and water valve covers to the same level as the new asphalt and paint new pavement markings.
This work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. The project is expected to be completed by the end of April 2024.
Electronic bulletin boards will be installed ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances.
