Tucson mom faces charges after child’s remains found in house

A 24-year-old Tucson woman has been arrested. Police said they found the remains of her one of her three children inside her home.

The incident began on the afternoon of March 23 near East Drexel Road and South Campbell Avenue when police were called after someone reported a child running across the street. .

Police officers went to a house on Block 5500 on South Monrovia Avenue and found a 4-year-old and 9-month-old child abandoned by their mother, Katie Luna Hernandez, 24.

The Arizona Department of Child Safety took the children into custody and Hernandez was arrested.

The next day, detectives learned that Hernandez had a third child, a two-year-old boy. After questioning Hernandez about the whereabouts of his son, police raided the house and found the boy’s body hidden inside the house.

Officers also found fentanyl and drug paraphernalia in the home, the release said.

Hernandez was arrested on two felony charges of child abuse, the news release said. It says it will be submitted.
